Notarization & Legalization Service

Notarization is usually required for documents that are intended for use in other countries. By notarization, it means that the document is signed before a Notary Public.
While it is generally not required for documents intended for use in Singapore, ICA Singapore requires that privately translated documents must be notarized by a Notary Public.

Legalization Service

Legalization certifies the official seal, signature and/ or authority of the Notary Public. Such legalization in no way attests to the authenticity of the contents of a document but merely to the seal and signature of the issuing Singapore government official.

Legalization of Singapore Government Documents such as Marriage Certificates, Birth Certificates and Educational Certificates from local government schools

  • Bring the documents issued by the Singapore Government Departments in their original text to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for legalization. However, computer generated documents such as Business Profile from ACRA, must be certified by the issuing department first before presenting to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for legalization. If you wish to legalize true copies, the photocopy must be presented together with the original document for verification;
  • After the legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the documents should then be brought to the respective Embassy for legalization.
Legalization of Non-Government Documents (foreign / private / company documents):
  • Bring the documents to Notary Public to be notarized. A Notarial Certificate is issued accordingly;
  • The documents are then to be certified by the Singapore Academy of Law, which is located at: 1 Coleman Street, #08-06, The Adelphi, Singapore 179803 (Tel: +65 6332 4388 Email: enquiries@sal.org.sg);
  • Bring the documents to Ministry of Foreign Affairs for authentication.
  • After the legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the documents should then be brought to the respective Embassy for legalization.
